Horsley Choral Society (HCS) has been in existence since the 1920's, although then known as 'Horsley Glee Club'! Singing is an ageless pursuit, you are never too young or too old to join a choir and the benefits physically, mentally and socially cannot be underestimated.
HCS is a very friendly mixed voice choir of around 60 members singing a wide variety of choral and other music at their concerts and also by invitation at local public and private events. Musical Director Val Beynon has been with the choir since 2011 and remains ever enthusiastic and we are lucky to have a talented accompanist, Matthew Rickard.
The choir has toured Europe as well as regularly singing at local events and by private invitation. HCS also enjoys collaborations with other choirs which have included performances at GLive and The Theatre in the Woods at West Horsley Place as well as a regular joint summer concert with Oxshott Choral Society with whom we share a Musical Director.
HCS competes and performs at the Leith Hill Music Festival, one of England’s leading choral events held annually at Dorking Halls, most recently winning the competition in 2024. As a member choir, LHMF dictates that no auditions are permitted and so there is no pressure to ‘perform’ before you join! All the choir asks is that you can hold a tune and have a love of music.
Rehearsals run from 8pm - 10pm every Monday during term time at East Horsley Village Hall. All new members of all voice parts are welcome. Come and try some free taster rehearsals one Monday.
