B2039 Ockham Road North: Planned closures - 22 July to 3 August and 19 August to 6 October

Balfour Beatty advise

These closures are to enable Affinity Water to undertake water main works and so that they can make alterations to Ockham Park roundabout approach.

For the first closure, the northbound B2039 Ockham Road North will be closed over a distance of about ⅓ km on its approach to the Ockham Park roundabout. The closure will last for 2 weeks from Monday 22 July until Saturday 3 August. During this time, it will be possible to leave Ockham Park roundabout heading south towards Ockham and Horsley but not travel in the opposite direction.

The diversion will be via Ockham Road North to Forest Road and then left onto Old Lane, left onto the southbound A3 and leaving the A3 at the B2215 Ripley slip road to reach the Ockham Park roundabout.

For the second closure, the northbound B2039 Ockham Road North will be closed in both direction over a distance of about ⅓ km on its approach to the Ockham Park roundabout as will the entire roundabout. The closure will take place between 10pm and 5.30am (weeknights only) for 2 weeks from Monday 22 July until Saturday 3 August

The diversions for this closure are:

For the A3 south bound, traffic will be to remain on the A3 to the Burpham Junction and return via the A3 North Jacobs Well exiting the A3 North at the B2215 Ripley

For traffic from Ripley, will be via the B2215 Portsmouth Road to the A247 Clandon Road and the A3 South to Burpham and return via the A3 North Jacobs Well to the M25 J10.

For traffic exiting Mill Lane, will be to turn left only and travel to the M25 J10 and return via the A3 south joining the diversion for the A3 south slip road

The third closure will be put in place once SGN have completed gas work on the A247 Clandon Road.

The northbound B2039 Ockham Road North over a distance of about ⅓ km on its approach to the Ockham Park roundabout will be closed again. This closure will last for 7 weeks from Monday 19 August until Sunday 6 October. During this time, it will be possible to leave Ockham Park roundabout heading south towards Ockham and Horsley but not travel in the opposite direction.

M25 closures - update

National Highways have announced there will be no more full weekend closures of the M25/A3 this calendar year. The two remaining closures will be next spring. They will give a minimum of four weeks’ notice for these closures so you can plan ahead, and they will avoid busy holiday periods.

Forest Road | Closed from 24 July | 3 days

Forest Road will be closed to vehicles entering or proceeding from its junction with the access to the property known as “Briar Cottage” to its junction with Glendene Avenue. An alternative route will be in place: Forest Road, Howard Road, Effingham Common Road, The Street, (A246) Guildford Road, (B2039) Ockham Road South, and Forest Road, or this route in reverse. This is required to facilitate utility works for, or on behalf of UKPN.  These works are anticipated to be carried out over 3 days, between the hours of 8am and 5pm and will commence on 24 July 2024. Access for residents, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times. All other traffic, including the emergency services will be required to use the signed diversion route.

Speed Limit Reduced on The Drift

Hard on the heels of finally achieving a 20mph limit in Chalk Lane, your Parish Council’s long running quest to bring about a reduction in The Drift has also been successful. The previous 60 mph limit has now been lowered to 30mph.

A246 Road Death

For some years East Horsley Parish Council’s Road Safety Task Group has been pressing Surrey Highways (SH) to take steps to curb excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking on the downhill stretch of road from Outdowns to Green Dene. Drawing on local knowledge and data collected by the village Speedwatch team, it was pointed out that, if nothing was done, a serious accident was likely at some stage.

The Task Group’s urgings went unheeded and tragically the collision that was dreaded duly occurred on Sunday morning when a motor cyclist lost his life.

EHPC fervently hopes that measures will now be taken by SH to reduce the risk of such devastating circumstances happening again.
